Bobeus stencils Vol 1,2,3

The Tattoo process starts before the needle even hits the skin.

The Stencils by Bobeus tattoo book explores the artistry of the initial phase of the tattoo – the mock-up, or stencil. These delicate pieces of paper, sometimes tossed in the bin after use (or otherwise mounted on the artist’s studio wall), have a powerful visual appeal of their own.

Bobeus is regarded as one of The Netherlands’ most skilled tattoo artists. Based in Eindhoven, he runs True Blue Tattoo with Guus Mandigers. Bobeus’s art references traditional design, taking inspiration from the greats, such as Ben Corday and George Burchett. However, as this rich collection of stencils proves, his designs are also forward-thinking; taking iconic images and giving them a fresh, dynamic aesthetic.

A true collector’s piece, this tattoo reference book is one of only 1,000 and each copy is hand-numbered by the artist. The book is ota-bound, enabling each page to be laid flat and read through at leisure, and the paper is superior quality Munken Premium Cream. The dust jacket of the book can also be removed and displayed as a poster.

It’s a necessary addition to any old-school tattoo flash book collection, and showcases the preliminary stages of tattoo development, and the evolution of traditional design.
